BUCAS GRANDE ISLAND

Bucas Grande Island situated on the far eastern part of the province of Surigao del Norte. It is popularly known as the municipality of Socorro, a lone island municipality in the entire province. Bucas Grande Island lies within the breadth of the Pacific. Its total land area of 12,445 hectares holds a count of more or less 20,000 inhabitants. These inhabitants have settled in 14 barangays of the municipality namely: Barangays Don Albino Taruc, Navarro, Rizal, Del Pilar, Dona Helene, Honrado, Nueva Estrella, Pamosaingan, Salog, San Roque, Sudlon, Santa Cruz, Songkoy and N. Sering.
Bucas Grande Island has been laced by Mother Nature with relatively peaceful shorelines. The island has been known for its magnificent white beaches and for its carefree people. Being an island municipality, traveling by sea has never turned out as an option for its people but a way of living for them. Bucas Grande Island is a place which is an epitome of what a melting pot is. Its inhabitants are mostly coming from Leyte, Tago, Cantilan, Mainit, General Luna and other places of Visayas and Mindanao. Today, the melting pot character has been strengthened by the hundreds of local and foreign tourists which are flocking the place each year.
Indeed, it is beyond issue that Bucas Grande Island has been blessed with countless wonders of nature. Here, you can explore the breadth of its mystical caves, coves and caverns; fall to the charm of the forest which displays splashes of vibrant colors and cool shades; get to appreciate the breathtaking view of its upland view parks; swim with hundreds of thousands of non – stinging jellyfishes; get spell-bounded by its inland lakes, falls and rivers; sweat yourself out on your trekking adventure on the rugged and rocky trails; melt in with our old-age culture and tradition and know our humble beginnings; enjoy the freshest catch and take sumptuous meals; while away your day on the group of islets that we have here; catch sight to the fascinating rock formations; and more!

HOW TO GET THERE

Surigao City is the main transit point in getting to Bucas Grande Island. You can travel by air, by land (Philtranco Bus), or by sea from Manila directly to Surigao City. At the airport or at the bus terminal, you can either ride a tricycle or multi cab to the City’s Pantalan Uno (Port / Pier 1) where you will take another two-hour boat ride to Bucas Grande Island. Bucas Grande Island is popularly known as Socorro so I advise you to ask people using the latter term whenever you look for the motor boat at the port. Alternatively, you can ask the driver of the land transport you are riding to send you to either M/B Angus or M/B Kimneth at said port.

Caramoan, Philippines – The Secret Paradise

Caramoan is known as the secret paradise in the Philippines, a place that not many people hear about or know where it is.
Most people instead tend to crowd to the nearby Borcacay, leaving Caramoan in the corner – perfect for those looking for a paradise just for themselves off the beaten track…
It started getting some attention a few years ago when the French Survivor TV show started shooting there, and this year the Israel Survivor show will also be using the same location.
The reason why these islands are such a popular shooting location for Survivor is because they want their contestants to feel like they are really far away from civilization – which is easily achieved here – it’s a wild paradise virtually untouched.

Island Hopping

The islands are something really special, with long white sandy beaches, crystal clear water and limestone cliffs surrounding the place. There isn’t much going on around here, but the main reason is to go swimming, hanging out on the beaches, see some natural untouched beauty and feel like you’re really living in the movie

The boats going around the islands are just powered out-rigger canoes, so don’t expect any big ferries here!
Paniman is where all island hopping activities begin. Other activities to do are; snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, spelunking (cave exploring) and night fishing.
The most popular beach to visit is Gota beach, which is the setting where the French Survivor team lived.

How To Get There

It takes quite a long time and a bit of effort getting to Caramoan, which may be the reason to why its beauty is so well kept. Not even the locals used to come here until recently (2008), after the first Survivor show.
You can take a boat from Saband to Guijalo Port (takes about 2-3 hours). The island hopping usually operates from Paniman and Bikal, so you can either take a trike into town or head straight towards Paniman or Bikal.
There is a boat schedule although the boat will only leave Guijalo once it’s full, which could be earlier than scheduled or later.
So if you are ever in the Philippines- make sure you take the effort to check out Caramoan, and enjoy it before it becomes too popular.
